Let’s catch up!

So, here’s what’s been going on at our house over the past year:

First and foremost, we were blessed on June 14, 2010 with the birth of Aaron Lee Beard.  He is such a joy…just a precious baby.  He  just had his first birthday and has learned to walk.  He is very curious…gets into everything, and he tries his best to keep up with his big brother.

Lindsay turned 16 last month, and in the past year has done everything from campaign for a congressman in Arkansas to mission work at an orphanage in Uganda, Africa.  She finally got her learner’s permit and is learning to drive.  She will soon start her junior year, and she keeps her plate pretty full with church activities, piano, school work, reading, missions, and TeenPact.  I’m so proud of the woman she is becoming.  She loves her Lord, and she is beautiful both on the inside and out.

Lauren is 10 1/2, and has had quite a year.  Ballet is her main focus…she loves it…dances around the house continuously…she’s a beautiful ballerina!  She had major surgery in February, and she has recovered completely.  She enjoys cooking (especially baking), riding her bike, anything outdoors, but mostly ballet.  She is growing up so fast, and she has a very generous and kind heart.

Jadon turned 3 last month and is a ball of energy.  He is happy as long as he is outside following his dad around, “helping” him do projects and chores around the house.  He constantly has his hands in/on something he shouldn’t, but he sure does have a good time doing it.  He is extremely curious and full of questions.  He is our entertainment…never a dull moment when he’s around.

As for Barry, he is as busy as ever with the restaurant.  When he’s not there, though, we are slowly but surely transforming our 3 acres into a homestead.  There is a lot going on, but there is always more to do.

We have a pretty big garden this summer that we share with my parents (in the past week we’ve harvested close to 1000 ears of sweet corn), we now have chickens (hopefully 12 hens and a rooster, although one of the hens is still questionable), Barry is in the process of building  a greenhouse (very inexpensively, I might add), the girls and I make our bread, we now line-dry about 99% of our laundry, we’ve planted some fruit trees (mostly citrus…apple and peach are coming soon), and our plan is to have honey bees and a couple of milking goats by next year.  It is definitely a lot to learn, but it is so rewarding to see what we can accomplish with our hands and what the Lord has blessed us with.

So, my plan is to update this blog once a week.  Now, you know me…it may not happen that often, but ya gotta have a goal, right?  That’s my goal…once a week.
